Peaceful Voting in Umreth Assembly By-Election 2026, 54.43% Turnout Till 5 PM

Umreth, Gujarat: Voting for the 111-Umreth Assembly by-election (2026) concluded peacefully on Thursday, with an estimated 54.43% voter turnout recorded till 5:00 PM, according to data uploaded on the ECINET app by presiding officers.

Polling began at 7:00 AM and was conducted in a smooth, orderly, and secure environment across the constituency. As part of a new initiative by the Election Commission, real-time voting data was uploaded digitally through the ECINET platform.

A total of 306 polling stations were set up, including 68 in urban areas and 238 in rural regions, where voters exercised their democratic rights.

Before the commencement of voting, mock polls were conducted on EVMs at all polling stations in the presence of polling agents appointed by the contesting candidates, ensuring transparency in the process.

The Umreth Assembly constituency includes 46 villages from Umreth taluka and Anand rural area, along with three municipalities—Ode, Umreth, and Boriavi. A total of six candidates are contesting in this by-election.

The total number of registered voters stands at 2,45,623, comprising 1,26,545 male voters, 1,19,072 female voters, and 6 voters from other categories.

To ensure strict monitoring, webcasting facilities were installed at all polling stations. Among them:

  • 1 polling station was managed by persons with disabilities
  • 2 stations were managed by youth
  • 2 stations were managed entirely by women
  • 5 model polling stations were also set up

In accordance with revised Election Commission guidelines, candidates were allowed to set up booths 100 meters away from polling station entrances, aiding voters—especially those without voter slips.

Special provisions were made for senior citizens and persons with disabilities:

  • 101 voters aged 85+ and differently-abled cast their votes via postal ballots from home, supervised by dedicated teams in the presence of candidate representatives.
  • 218 wheelchairs were deployed across polling stations
  • 361 volunteers assisted voters throughout the day
  • 6 vehicles were reserved for free transport of elderly and differently-abled voters

Considering the heat conditions, arrangements such as ORS, shaded waiting areas, and shelters were provided at all polling stations. Additionally, Voter Assistance Booths were set up to offer guidance and ensure smooth voter experience, including secure mobile phone handling facilities.

Overall, the by-election witnessed a well-managed and inclusive electoral process, reflecting strong administrative preparedness and voter participation.
