Atmanirbhar Bharat Initiative: India’s First Indigenous C-295 Aircraft at Vadodara Facility Reviewed by Dy Chief of Air Staff

Vadodara, Gujarat: In a major boost to India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem and the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Deputy Chief of the Air Staff visited the final assembly line of the C-295 transport aircraft at Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) in Vadodara, Gujarat. During the visit, senior officials reviewed the progress of the first C-295 aircraft being manufactured in India under the landmark Make in India initiative.

The aircraft, which is currently in the advanced stages of assembly and integration, is preparing for its maiden flight from the Vadodara facility. The project is being jointly executed by Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Airbus, marking one of India’s most significant defence aerospace collaborations in recent years.

The visit highlighted the rapid progress achieved at the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which has emerged as a symbol of India’s growing capabilities in military aircraft production. Officials showcased key stages of aircraft assembly, systems integration, quality assurance, and indigenous manufacturing processes being carried out at the plant.

The C-295 programme is expected to transform India’s defence aviation sector by creating a robust domestic aerospace ecosystem involving hundreds of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), skilled manpower, and advanced technology transfer. Industry experts believe the initiative will significantly reduce dependence on imports while positioning India as a future hub for military aircraft manufacturing and exports.

The C-295 aircraft is a modern tactical transport platform designed for multiple missions, including troop transport, logistics support, disaster relief, medical evacuation, and maritime operations. The Indian Air Force is set to receive a total of 56 aircraft under the programme, with several being manufactured in India as part of the indigenous production roadmap.

The Vadodara facility has become a milestone project for Gujarat’s industrial and defence manufacturing ambitions. The plant is expected to generate large-scale employment opportunities, promote high-end engineering capabilities, and strengthen India’s strategic self-reliance in the aerospace and defence sectors.

Officials stated that the successful rollout and upcoming first flight of the Made-in-India C-295 will represent a historic moment for the country’s aviation industry and reinforce India’s commitment toward building a globally competitive defence manufacturing ecosystem under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
