Junagadh: 11-Year-Old Boy Reportedly Dragged Away by Lion Near Girnar Steps

Junagadh, Gujarat: An 11-year-old boy was reportedly dragged away by a lion while climbing the Girnar hill with his family in the early hours of the morning. The incident is said to have occurred at around 5:45 a.m. near the 50th step of the Girnar staircase.

According to initial reports, the child, identified as Mayur Chauhan, was climbing the hill with his family when a lion allegedly emerged suddenly from the surrounding area and attacked him in the presence of hundreds of pilgrims.

Officials said the remains of the child’s legs were found approximately 100 metres from the staircase. Forest Department teams reportedly traced the animal’s movement using paw prints and drag marks during the investigation.

Local reports also claim that three lions had been frequently sighted in the area over the past week, raising concerns about wildlife movement near the pilgrimage route. Forest officials are investigating the incident and are expected to review safety measures for visitors to the Girnar hill.
