Gandhinagar: In a major move aimed at making the passport verification process easier and more transparent for citizens, the Gujarat Police has issued new guidelines stating that passport applicants will no longer be required to visit police stations for verification.
The directions were issued by Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Singh Malik, who instructed all police stations and officers across the state to strictly follow the revised procedure.
According to the new guidelines, police verification will focus only on checking the applicant’s citizenship details and criminal history. There will be no separate requirement for police to verify the applicant’s residential address during the process.
The police will also not be required to call applicants to the police station, meet them personally, or obtain their signatures for passport verification. In exceptional cases where officers find suspicious information or require additional verification, they may visit the applicant’s residence. However, even in such cases, the applicant will not be asked to appear at the police station.
The Gujarat Police has appealed to citizens to remain aware of the simplified process and avoid unnecessary visits or procedures during passport verification.
The move is expected to reduce inconvenience for citizens and make the passport verification system more citizen-friendly and efficient.
