Ahmedabad, August 27, 2026: A devastating flash flood in the Nepal-Tibet border region has triggered major concern in Gujarat, with 11 people from the state currently reported missing or untraceable.
Initially, the Gujarat State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) received reports that 12 people from Gujarat had lost contact with their families following the disaster. However, authorities later established contact with Roma Dilipbhai Intwala of Valsad, who was found to be safe in Nepal. The number of people still untraceable has therefore been revised to 11.
According to reports, several of the missing persons were travelling through Nepal for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Some were believed to be near the Friendship Bridge and the Bhote Koshi River in the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border region when the flash floods struck.
The missing individuals include people from Ahmedabad, Surat, Anand and Rajkot, along with persons of Gujarati origin residing abroad. The disaster severely damaged roads and communication networks, making it difficult for families to contact their relatives.
The Gujarat government has activated its emergency response mechanism and is coordinating efforts to trace the missing persons. Families and affected citizens have been asked to contact the Gujarat State Control Room for assistance.
