Aagam Cancer Centre’s initiative emphasises cancer prevention, early diagnosis

Ahmedabad, December 20: Aagam Cancer Centre organised a cancer awareness meeting for patients and caregivers, aimed at promoting awareness about cancer, the importance of early diagnosis and the role of timely treatment in improving outcomes. Held at the Kalyanam Vastrapur Community Centre on Saturday, the programme was led by Dr. Ashish Kaushal, Senior Medical Oncologist at Aagam Cancer Centre. It brought together cancer patients and caregivers for an interactive session focused on early signs of cancer, preventive measures and available treatment options. The event also featured real-life patient experiences, offering insights and encouragement to participants.

Rajesh Bhatt, retired chief fire officer of Ahmedabad, was the chief guest, and spoke about the importance of awareness and strong support systems for patients and families dealing with cancer. Addressing the participants, Dr. Kaushal said, “Cancer is increasingly being diagnosed across age groups, but early detection significantly improves the chances of successful treatment. Awareness helps patients recognise symptoms early and seek medical advice without delay. Alongside medical treatment, emotional support and access to correct information are vital aspects of the patient’s journey.”

Highlighting advancements in cancer care, Dr. Kaushal spoke about organ-preserving treatment approaches, including breast-conserving surgery, limb-salvage procedures, voice box preserving techniques, precision radiation and targeted medicines. These modern methods aim to treat cancer effectively while protecting vital organs and maintaining patients’ quality of life. Supportive measures such as the use of scalp cooling caps to help reduce hair loss during chemotherapy were also discussed. The session highlighted preventive strategies, including healthy lifestyle choices, regular health check-ups, and the importance of adhering to medical advice during and after treatment.
