Actress Amrita Puri best known for her roles in films like “Aisha”, “Blood Money” and “Kai Po Che!” on Wednesday visited the city to promote her ongoing show on Star plus P.O.W. Bandi Yuddh Ke based on the theme of Kargil War, features actors Satyadeep Mishra, Sandhya Mridul and Purab Kohli in key roles. The show is directed by filmmaker Nikhil Advani. It’s an Indian adaptation of Israeli TV drama “Hatufim” which reveals the story of two missing-in-action soldiers who returns home after 17 years, condition of their better half and traumatic situation of the family of soldiers over that period. DNA Afterhours talks to show’s lead character Harleen AKA Amrita Puri to know more about her show.
About her Character
Amrita– “I am playing the role of Harleen, who is wife of soldier Naib Subedar Sartaj Singh, and waiting since 17 years for her husband who was missing on Kargil War front. Harleen never got to know her husband as he had to report on duty on their Wedding night. It is the most challenging role I have played so far. The story of this show is very novel, not seen on Indian television before. To be a part of something that is path breaking in terms of exciting content is exciting. On finding the role very exciting and challenging I decided to do it. I signed on the show after reading the first episode.”
Defense Background
Amrita-“I have a Defense background; my grandfather was an Air force officer and interestingly everyone from my grandfather’s side is from Defense background. My grandfather’s brother was caught by enemies at India-China border; the same way shown in my serial. For 6 months he was kept as a prisoner in Tibet. He was married at that time and his wife didn’t know whether he was alive or not. Funny thing is that I had no clue about it, but after watching my serial they revealed about this whole incident. After doing this serial I have more respect and admiration towards them now.”
Bond with star cast
Amrita- “It’s been amazing experience working with all of them. We are fortunate to have very strong cast. I think casting has been Fantastic, Satyadeep Mishra, Sandhya Mridul, Purab Kohli and everyone else is great actors. To work with a cast who is extremely talented and it also motivates you to work really hard. I am lucky that I get along with everyone, so it’s fun shooting with them.”
Her Take on Currency Ban
Amrita- “My Father is a Banker, but apart from that I feel it’s very bold and brave step taken by our PM Modi. I stand with him; I think he is great and his intention is wonderful. I hope he succeeds in doing what he has started off with this campaign and cleaning up black money. There are hardships initially, there will be initial transaction problems but I think it’s wonderful to enjoy its benefits. “
