There is ambitious Metro rail Project is underway for which Gujarat CM has performed ground breaking in Ahmedabad near Jivraj Park. Of Metro Rail Project Design on a stretch from Thaltej to Vastral and motera to Vasna is not yet finalized. Metro Mega company has estimated that about 2000 properties falling on Metro Route track will be acquired or cut for which 1000 EWS (Economically Weaker Section) and LIG (Low Income Group) vacant houses have been purchased from Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. On Mtero Rail route Motera to Vasna and Vasna to Jivraj stretches are important and permission to run train on existing track has been granted by Western Railway. As design of Metro Rail is not yet finalized any change in running the rail on track can have serious effect. There is no between Mithakhali to Jivraj, therefore if permission to run Metro on railway track is not granted then 100 colonies may get affected and come under cutting. Metro Mega company is checking feasibility of running the metro on existing railway track. If possible it will be preferred to run Metro on existing railway tracks, as per sources. Metro rail is planned on 2 routes from Thaltej to Vastral and from Motera to Vasna over a stretch of 37.36 kms with elevated corridor of 17.23 kms in north-west stretch and 20.53 km corridor in east-west stretch. On 6.33 kms underground stretch between Shahpur to Sarangpur will be prepared. There will 29 stations on elevated route and 4 stations on underground metro route. Firstly, metro rail was planned to e run on Vasna to Motera on railway track but due to technical reasons now metro on this route will run with elevated corridor. Metro Mega company in its first phase has started metro rail corridor work between Vastral to Apparel park. The company will first continue work in east corridor and then in west corridor. Finally company will take up underground work. Presently, metro rail work on elevated corridor is going on, as per sources.
