Ahmedabad, Gujarat – December 18, 2025: Ahmedabad City Police have issued an official traffic diversion and advisory notification in anticipation of the highly anticipated India vs South Africa T20 cricket match scheduled to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Motera. The notification has been issued to ensure smooth movement of traffic, enhance road safety, and manage the large crowds expected for the international fixture.
According to the police advisory, several key roads and stretches around the stadium will be closed to regular vehicular traffic during the match hours. The move aims to minimize congestion and facilitate the orderly arrival and departure of spectators and team entourages.
Under the traffic notification issued by the Police Commissionerate, the following measures will be implemented:
- Closure of major transit routes near Motera and the stadium approach roads during match hours. These restrictions will remain in force for several hours before and after the game to ensure that large crowds do not cause bottlenecks on arterial roads leading to the venue.
- Vehicles traveling toward Janpath T-junction and the Stadium Main Gate will be restricted from entry, with traffic police directing motorists toward alternate routes.
- Diversion routes have been planned, and signage will be in place to guide motorists to avoid the restricted zones and use suggested alternate paths via Tapovan Circle, SP Ring Road, and secondary roads that circumnavigate the stadium precincts.
- Only authorized vehicles — including official match transports, government vehicles on duty, emergency services, and local residents with valid passes — will be permitted to enter the restricted zone.
Police officials have urged citizens to plan their travel ahead of time and to follow the instructions of traffic personnel deployed along the diverted routes. A strong police presence will be maintained at all major intersections and junctions to manage the flow and ensure compliance with the advisory.
Local authorities also reminded commuters that violation of the traffic notification could lead to penalties under relevant provisions of the Gujarat Police Act, and called on motorists to cooperate for a smooth match-day experience.
The match between India and South Africa is expected to draw thousands of cricket fans from across the city, making these traffic diversions and controls crucial to managing the city’s transport infrastructure efficiently on match day.
