Today in Odhav area of Ahmedabad, residents of Viratnagar are raising issue of contaminated water. For the last 2 years, the families have been getting brown colored dirty water, foul-smelling water with sediments in it. Localites claim that AMC Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has laid some pipelines in the area. At the time, they must have cross connected the sewer and water pipelines which has led to our drinking water getting contaminated. The residents did not realise the intensity of the contamination till some of them started falling ill, getting fever and stomach ache. They allege that after the area started receiving contaminated water, several people have been diagnosed of Typhoid. Locals are now forced to either buy water, which most people in the neighborhood cannot afford to do, or have to walk upto a filling station nearby to get water from the public tap after long waiting in a queue. Even then they are able to collect water enough for drinking.
