Asiatic Lions survey over for 2015; Gujarat CM to announce official figures

Today in Gir Sasan as per Survey of year  2015 by Gujarat Government number of Asiatic Lions is 523, with 109 male lions ,  201 female lions and 213 Lion Cubs. Asiatic Lions live in natural habitat in Gir National Forest Park. This survey is made periodically. Number of Lions increased from 411 in year 2010 to 523 in year 2015. Lions survey was conducted by 2500 people in Gujarat. Gujarat CM highlighted that numbers of lions in Gujarat has increased whereas it has increased in Madhya Pradesh. In Junagadh 268, Gir Somnath 44, Bhavnagar 37 and Amreli 174 lions were surveyed.

This Figures will be announced by Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today to media.

The Asiatic lion, also known as the Indian lion or Persian lion, is a lion subspecies that exists as a single population in India’s Gujarat state. It is listed as Endangered by IUCN due its small population size.
