89 Years of Tradition, Faith, Culture & Community to Begin a New Chapter at the New Sindhu Bhavan Road Venue
6 September 2026 Ahmedabad : The Bengal Cultural Association (BCA), Ahmedabad is all set to celebrate the 89th edition of Kalibari Durga Puja 2026, marking another significant milestone in its remarkable journey of preserving, nurturing and sharing Bengali culture and traditions in Ahmedabad. This year’s celebrations will be held from 15th October 2026 (Thursday) to 21st October 2026 (Wednesday) at the Association’s new venue on Sindhu Bhavan Road, next to Monte Carlo Oxygen Park, Ahmedabad.
The highlight of this year’s celebration will be an ISKCON Temple, Mayapur-inspired theme, bringing together spirituality, architecture, artistic creativity and the vibrant festive spirit of Durga Puja to create a unique experience for devotees and visitors.
89 YEARS – A JOURNEY OF FAITH, CULTURE & TOGETHERNESS What began from a humble beginning nearly nine decades ago has travelled through different venues and generations to become an important part of Ahmedabad’s cultural landscape. Over the last 89 years, Kalibari Durga Puja has continued its endeavour to preserve and nurture the essence of Bengali culture and heritage in Ahmedabad, while embracing the warmth, affection and support of the city it calls home. Through the years, the Puja has moved through different locations and chapters, reflecting the growth of both the Bengali community and Ahmedabad itself. But while venues changed, the spirit of Maa Durga, Bengali traditions and community togetherness remained constant.
The journey has also created a beautiful cultural connection between the Bengali and Gujarati communities. A Bridge Between Maa Durga and Maa Ambe The relationship between the two communities has evolved into a bridge of faith, friendship, culture and community. A bridge that connects two rich cultural traditions and brings people together through the universal spirit of devotion and celebration. In many ways, this cultural bridge is as significant in spirit as the Howrah Bridge and Ahmedabad’s Atal Bridge—connecting people, cultures and emotions.
THE CULTURAL CAULDRON The 89th Kalibari Durga Puja will celebrate not only the religious and spiritual dimensions of the festival, but also the many people and institutions that contribute to making it possible. The new venue, the inspired theme, idol makers, artisans, artists, performers, sponsors, donors, committee members, volunteers and devotees will collectively form the story behind Kalibari Durga Puja 2026. The celebration will therefore be presented as a “Cultural Cauldron”, where tradition meets contemporary creativity and generations come together to celebrate their shared love for culture.
THE INSPIRED THEME • THE BRANDS • THE CUSTODIANS BEHIND THE DREAM The 2026 theme is inspired by the magnificent architecture of ISKCON Temple, Mayapur. The theme represents a new creative chapter for the 89-year-old celebration and will be brought alive through the collective efforts of the Association’s creative team, organisers, supporters and “brand warriors” who are working behind the scenes to transform the concept into reality. The new Sindhu Bhavan Road venue will provide a fresh canvas to create a memorable experience while retaining the traditional soul and identity of Kalibari Durga Puja.
BEHIND THE MAKING OF MAA DURGA One of the most anticipated aspects of the pre-Puja preparations will be the opportunity to witness how Maa Durga’s idol takes shape. Every year, devotees and media look forward to seeing the craftsmanship and dedication involved in creating the idol. BCA plans to provide media friends with opportunities to interact with the Idol Maker, understand the traditional craftsmanship involved and capture the fascinating transformation of the idol during the preparation stages. This initiative will also offer a glimpse into the preparations for the cultural programmes, special performances and other activities planned for the 89th edition. A SPECIAL CRAFTS MELA FOR ARTISANS & ART LOVERS Adding another cultural dimension to the celebrations, Bengal Cultural Association will organise a special Crafts Mela, providing artisans and artists with a platform to showcase their creativity, traditional craftsmanship and unique works. The Crafts Mela will allow visitors to discover and appreciate different forms of art, handicrafts and creative expressions, while also supporting the artisans and artists who contribute to India’s rich cultural heritage. It will provide families and visitors with an opportunity to experience another important aspect of Bengali and Indian artistic traditions beyond the Puja itself.
WELCOME TO THE PUJOS – A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE FOR ALL BCA’s vision is to make the 89th Kalibari Durga Puja a celebration that welcomes everyone in Ahmedabad, irrespective of their cultural background. Special Artist Performances and Cultural Activities will be organised during the evenings, featuring music, dance, artistic presentations and other cultural programmes. Through these initiatives, BCA particularly hopes to welcome non-Bengali families, visitors, young people and cultural enthusiasts to the Puja and provide them with an opportunity to understand the pride, emotions, traditions and celebrations associated with Bengali Durga Puja. “Come, Experience the Pride of Bengali Culture” BCA believes that Durga Puja is not only a religious celebration for the Bengali community, but also a festival of art, culture, music, creativity, food, togetherness and community spirit. The Association therefore extends a warm invitation to the people of Ahmedabad to visit the Puja, participate in the evening cultural activities, explore the Crafts Mela and experience the unique traditions associated with Bengali culture. KNOW OUR CELEBRITY ARTISTS & SPECIAL PERFORMERS The cultural programme of the 89th Kalibari Durga Puja will feature a team of celebrated creative minds, artists and special performers. Through dedicated social media features and interview sessions, BCA plans to introduce its artists and special performers to audiences ahead of the Puja. Among those being highlighted are Shri Prosenjit Sir and Smt. Sashwati Bhattacharya, along with special artists, young performers and children who will contribute to the cultural festivities. The objective is to take audiences behind the performances and allow them to know the creative minds and personalities who will add colour to Kalibari 2026.

Months of planning, coordination, preparation and teamwork go into creating the celebration. Through a special “Behind the Scenes” campaign, BCA will introduce its committee members and volunteers and showcase the people responsible for bringing the 89th edition to life. The campaign will highlight their responsibilities, experiences, memories and personal connection with Kalibari Durga Puja. The celebration people see is the result of the dedication of people they don’t always see. This campaign will bring those people and their stories into the spotlight.
A NEW CHAPTER BEGINS The 89th Kalibari Durga Puja 2026 is therefore not merely another edition of a festival. It is a celebration of 89 years of memories, traditions, relationships, resilience and cultural heritage, while simultaneously opening the doors to a new chapter at the new Sindhu Bhavan Road venue. From its humble beginnings to the grand celebration it has become today, the journey of Bengal Cultural Association reflects the evolving cultural fabric of Ahmedabad. This year, BCA hopes to take that journey one step further by opening the doors of Kalibari Durga Puja even wider—to Bengalis, non-Bengalis, families, youngsters, artists, artisans, corporates, sponsors, devotees and the entire Ahmedabad community.
