A Khedut Mahapanchayat (farmers’ grand meeting) was organized by AAP in Hadad (Hadadad) village, Botad district. The rally was held despite the event not being granted official permission by authorities. When police arrived to disperse the gathering, stone-pelting began from some protesters.

In response, authorities fired tear gas shells to control the crowd. At least 3 police officers were injured in the clashes — one of them, the Deputy Superintendent (DySP) Maharshi Rawal, sustained a fractured hand.

Over 20 people were detained (arrests made) following the unrest.

AAP leaders—including Isudan Gadhvi (state president) and Sagar Desai—were intercepted and detained near Bagodra highway before they could reach the rally venue.
After the detentions, supporters blocked the highway and staged demonstrations, causing traffic disruption. The police claimed that the Mahapanchayat was illegal (held without permission) and that protests escalated after stone-throwing despite warnings.
Meanwhile, AAP accused the state government and BJP of trying to suppress farmers’ rights, especially regarding alleged unfair practices in cotton marketing yards (such as faulty weighments) and exploitation of farmers. Earlier, Raju Karpada, head of AAP’s Kisan Cell in Gujarat, had staged a sit-in protest at the Botad Marketing Yard, demanding transparency and fair pricing for cotton. He was detained late at night. AAP national leader Arvind Kejriwal condemned the arrest of Karpada and accused the BJP of suppressing the voices of farmers.
