The Bombay high court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to Rahul Raj Singh, who has been booked for allegedly driving his live-in partner and television actor Pratushya Banerjee to suicide. Justice Mridula Bhatkar granted Rahul, also a television actor and producer, interim anticipatory bail in the sum of Rs 30,000 till April 18, when his plea for anticipatory bail will be heard further. In the meanwhile, he will have to attend Bangur Nagar Police Station every day between 11.00 am and 1.00 pm.
Additional public prosecutor Usha Kejriwal opposed the anticipatory bail plea saying Rahul and Pratushya were staying together as live-in partners and Rahul used to harass her, demand money from her and at times used to withdraw money from her bank account. He also allegedly used to physically assault her because of which she took the extreme step of ending her life.Kejriwal further informed the court that on the fateful day, April 1, Rahul was in the house since morning till 3.00 pm and it was he who, after returning home, found her hanging at their residence.
The 25-year-old TV actor was found hanging at her residence the evening of April 1, and the Bangur Nagar police have booked her live-in partner, Rahul Raj, for driving her to commit suicide. After the sessions court at Dindoshi rejected his plea for anticipatory bail, Rahul has moved high court seeking protection from arrest.
