Ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024 scheduled to begin on April 19, ECI Election Commission of India has issued orders for removal of the Home Secretary in six states including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand who are holding charges in respective Chief Minister’s Office.
EC removes DGP West Bengal, Brihan Mumbai Municipal (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal; Additional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners were also removed, Secretary GAD Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, who are holding charge in respective CM’s Office, shunted out..It is learnt from the sources that the changes had been made to “ensure level playing fields” and “to maintain the integrity of the poll process”.
