In Gandhinagar, Gujarat at Forensic Science Laboratory Ballistic Research Centre and Test Range has been established with a budget of Rs 9 crores. The Ballistic Research Centre at FSL Gandhinagar is said to be the first of its kind in Asia. With establishment of this research centre at FSL now it is possible to conduct testing of bullet proof, helmet or bullet proof armed vehicle. Executive P K Taneja of Gujarat Home Ministry inaugurated the centre. It is 150 feet long and 50 feet wide i dimension with sound proof and centralised air conditioning facility. Quality of bullet proof jacket, helmet, glass and metal could be tested at the research centre. Testing of bullet proof armed vehicles could be done at the centre. Technology from Zech Republic and international standards have been adopted by the centre. Premier Security agencies of the country including IG Santosh Mehra of BSF Gujarat Frontier visited the centre. He said that central agencies will get benefit of this research and testing facility. Till now there was no facility to test bullet proof products therefore security agencies had to depend on other countries. Production of bullet proof production was costly and quality was a big concern, now all the issues have been addressed. Gujarat state is soon launching defense production therefore manufactures will not have to go out of Gujarat.
