The government’s decision to provide cash compensation cash dolls to only 2 members of a family is completely unacceptable

Demand for a canal system for permanent drainage of water in the Rann region

No availability of medicines at PHC centers; no concern for public health

Due to extremely heavy rainfall on 7th and 8th September 2025 in Tharad, Vav, and Suigam talukas of Banaskantha district, a sudden and severe flood situation arose. Villages were submerged, thousands of lives were devastated, farmers lost standing crops completely, and fertile lands were washed away due to soil erosion. Poor and middle-class families lost their homes, becoming homeless; household items were washed away leaving families destitute. Thousands of cattle died, severely impacting the rural economy, and damaged roads disrupted transport and communication. Even today, many villages face mud, filth, and lack of essential facilities, making life extremely difficult.

On 15th September 2025, Amit Chavda, along with Banaskantha MP Geniben Thakor, Banaskantha District Congress President Gulabsinh Rajput, leaders, and workers, visited Bharadwa village in Suigam taluka, Morikha village in Vav taluka, and Dodgam and Khanpur villages in Tharad taluka. He personally met affected families, listened to their grievances, inspected damaged houses, surveyed destroyed crops, and learned about the economic losses due to cattle deaths.

After the visit, Chavda said that “There has been massive loss. Water entered homes, destroying household items including food grains and clothes. Large numbers of cattle drowned and died. Crops and farmlands were washed away, leading to economic disaster. Additionally, there is a risk of epidemic diseases. Despite having a PHC center, there are no medicines available and no healthcare measures are being taken.”

He further stated that “The government’s rule that only two family members will receive cash compensation is unacceptable. Entire villages and communities have resolved collectively that unless proper cash compensation and household assistance are provided, they will boycott this arrangement.”

Shri Chavda urged the government that “This is not the first flood. It has occurred repeatedly in 2015, 2017, 2021, and now in 2025. These border villages are near the Rann desert region, where waterlogging occurs due to salinity and rising groundwater. A permanent canal system must be established to drain excess water from Bhabhar, Tharad, and Suigam areas into the Rann. We will submit a memorandum to the government, presenting people’s grievances and demanding immediate action.”

During the visit to flood-affected areas, Banaskantha MP Geniben Thakor, District President Gulabsinh Rajput, MLA Kanti Kharadi, former MLA Chandanji Thakor, Shiva Bhuriya, former District President Dinesh Gadhvi, and other leaders and workers were present.
