Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today called for popularizing agricultural implements designed and developed by farmers as they would be user-friendly. She said that use of such implements should be displayed and demonstrated at far fairs at village level.

Speaking at a function to mark the distribution of V-TV Krishi Ratna Awards for 2014 to five progressive farmers, she said that Gujarat’s farmers are practical enough to adopt the latest tools and inputs. She attributed the success of Krishi Mahotsava in the state to the state government’s lab-to-land policy of disseminating the latest developments in agricultural sciences and technology to the farmers.

Mrs. Patel listed the special allocations for the farm sector during this year’s budget such as 300 sq yd plot for women’s primary milk producers unions, ensuring remunerative prices to farmers and helping them build godowns. She asked the farmers to join the countrywide campaign for constructing toilets in every home.

The five sons-of-the-soil award winners in different categories are Mandakiniben Rathod (cattle rearing), Kantibhai Bhimani (innovation), Chandrakant Patel (farm practice) and Bhikhabhai Patel (water conservation).

Sambhav Group Managing Director Kiran Vadodaria gave details of the awards and V-TV Director Jagdishbhai proposed a vote of thanks.
