Reacting sharply, the Chief Minister stated that the remarks made by Kharge about the people of Gujarat are “shocking and deeply offensive.” He added that such statements not only insult the 6.5 crore citizens of Gujarat but also disrespect the land of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The Chief Minister further said that the growing support for the BJP’s development politics reflects the mindset and frustration within the Congress party.
The Chief Minister also accused Congress of historically obstructing Gujarat’s development:
- Opposition to the construction of the Statue of Unity dedicated to Sardar Patel
- Creating hurdles in the implementation of the Sardar Sarovar project
- Reducing allocation of chemical fertilizers, affecting Gujarat farmers
- Attempting to discourage investment during Vibrant Gujarat by issuing Income Tax notices
- Delaying approval for increasing the height and installing gates of the Narmada dam
He also recalled that former Chief Minister Narendra Modi had led Gujarat’s progress despite multiple obstacles.
The Chief Minister alleged that Congress leaders had used derogatory language against Modi in the past, including calling him “merchant of death” and making over 50 insulting remarks.
He emphasized that Gujarat has progressed under the influence and legacy of Gandhi, Sardar Patel, and Narendra Modi, positioning the state as a leading contributor to India’s growth.
Highlighting Gujarat’s achievements, the Chief Minister noted:
- Gujarat contributes around 8% to India’s GDP
- Nearly 40% share in the pharmaceutical sector
- Establishment of GIFT City as a major economic hub
Referring to recent electoral setbacks faced by Congress in five state assembly elections and local body polls, BJP leaders expressed confidence that the party will secure a landslide victory in upcoming local self-government elections with continued public support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
