Ahmedabad: Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Wednesday said the state government is committed to fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a fitter and healthier India while accelerating preparations for hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Speaking to the media after returning to Ahmedabad from an overseas visit, Sanghavi said that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has witnessed a transformative phase in sports and youth development. He noted that the Fit India Movement has turned fitness into a mass movement, while the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan has encouraged young people to stay away from substance abuse, contributing to the development of a healthy, aware and empowered youth population.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Centre has significantly increased budgetary allocations for the sports sector under the Prime Minister’s guidance. This has led to the creation of modern sports infrastructure across the country and improved access to world-class training, facilities and support for athletes. As a result, Indian sportspersons are consistently delivering strong performances at international competitions and bringing laurels to the nation, he added.
Referring to the proposed 2030 Commonwealth Games, Sanghavi said Gujarat has begun making the necessary preparations at multiple levels. The state government is working in a planned manner to strengthen world-class sports infrastructure and ensure Gujarat is fully equipped to successfully host international sporting events.
He further said that the Centre and the Gujarat government are working in close coordination to provide young athletes with better opportunities, modern facilities and sustained encouragement. The government remains committed to enabling Gujarat’s sportspersons to excel at national and international levels and enhance the prestige of both the state and the country.
