Gujarat Congress stand with Students Teachers of Saurashtra University on their issues

Gujarat Congress team made representation regarding Saurashtra University students’ and teachers’ issues by writing a letter to University Chancellor of the University. Gujarat Congress team of Indravijaysinh Gohil, Parthivrajsinh Kathvadia, Rajdipsinh Jadeja, Narendra Solanki, Nidat Barot, Adityasinh Gohil & Hardevsinh Jadeja.

Congress blame that for the past 2 years, admission procedures across Gujarat through GCAS (Gujarat Common Admission System) have caused great difficulties for students. We demand that the GCAS system be removed for college admissions.

At Saurashtra University, after conducting examinations for various subjects, results take 4 to 6 months to be declared. The results often contain many errors, and mark sheets sometimes show students as Absent even though they were Present. The Examination Department has even faced raids by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. We demand immediate reforms in this inefficient examination system.

Newly appointed assistant professors in colleges affiliated with Saurashtra University are not being recognized as postgraduate teachers. This unfair decision towards teachers must be immediately revoked.

In almost all universities of Gujarat, college professors are recognized as PhD Guides and Students are allotted to them. Across universities, about 400–500 students are admitted to PhD programs annualy. However, only in Saurashtra University, the decision was taken Not To Allot PhD Students to college professors, resulting in only reduction to 100 PhD seats this year. We demand that this decision be withdrawn and PhD students be allotted to college professors as well.

The administration of Saurashtra University should focus not only on construction work but also on the careers of students.

For years, no permanent administrative staff have been recruited in Saurashtra University. The administration is being run by Contractual Staff. We demand that this system be abolished and Permanent Staff appointments be made.

During new Faculty Recruitment, only teaching experience in private colleges where teachers have been paid as per UGC norms is being recognized. This decision is completely wrong. In private colleges, teachers are recruited as per norms, they have academic recognition, and they carry out all teaching and examination duties. If management does not pay full UGC-scale salaries, that is not fault of teachers. Therefore, their teaching experience must be considered valid during recruitment in universities.

As per the NEP National Education Policy 2020, the 4th year of undergraduate courses is to begin next year. An announcement should be made about which colleges will start the 4th year and what will be the curriculum.
