Gandhinagar: Gujarat is strengthening its renewable-energy infrastructure with a focus on solar power and energy self-reliance. According to the state government’s announcement, Gujarat has reached a cumulative renewable-energy capacity of 47,178 MW, marking a significant expansion of its green-energy sector.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, more than 6,000 government offices across the state have already been equipped with solar installations with a combined capacity of around 95 MW.
The state government has now set an ambitious target for the current year. With a budget provision of ₹314 crore, solar rooftop systems are planned for approximately 15,000 additional government buildings, adding around 65 MW of solar-generation capacity.
The initiative is expected to reduce conventional electricity consumption in government buildings and help lower electricity expenditure. It is also aimed at reducing pollution associated with conventional power generation, while delivering environmental and economic benefits.
As part of Gujarat’s digital transformation, the state government has also introduced an IIoT-based Renewable Energy Monitoring System this year. The system will enable monitoring of renewable-energy installations deployed on government buildings, supporting more efficient management and performance tracking.
Gujarat’s renewable-energy initiatives are being supported through various state programmes, including rooftop solar and energy-efficiency measures.
