As per directive from Supreme Court, Gujarat government has formulated new road safety policy.
Today Vijay Rupani Transport Minister of Gujarat made announcement of new road safety policy. To develop necessary infrastructure one agency will be appointed of experts. Also, facility of Air Ambulance will be made available for seriously injured people in accidents. Emphasis on research will also be given over safety education and training.
In response to PIL Public Interest Litigation in Apex Court Road Safety Council has been formed and explaintion has been sought from all states, as a part of which Gujarat State has also made Road Safety Policy.
By year 2020, reduction in road accidents to be under 50% has been targetted and loss to GDP has been planned under new policy.
Gujarat government has made ample of arrangements to prevent road accidents and get emergency treatment to injured people. Strict imposition of traffic rules and provisions of penalty have been added.

Appointment of Agency with Experts and dedicated infrastructure for road safety
Road Safety Fund to be generated using Loan, Centre’s grant and other authorized government sources
Implementation of Road Safety Audit and defining of Road Safety Guidelines
Experts will appointed for Road Safety Research
Effective implementation of traffic rules and strict penalty imposition
Use of CCTV surveillance, RFID and GPS based technology for road safety
Upgradtion of medical facilities with ambulance, air ambulance and trauma center even for private hospitals
It is necessary to note that there is an accident per minute and every 4 minutes one accident takes place. As far as loss is concerned average 1 to 3 % GDP is lost due to road accidents. In year 2014, number of accidents remained at 23,712 with 6309 people got fatal injury and death toll remained at 7955.
Gujarat government is ready to void such situations.
