Gujarat Health Minister Inaugurates Advanced CT Scan, Sonography and Cochlear Implant OT at Sola Civil Hospital

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya inaugurated a newly installed 128-slice CT Scan machine, high-end sonography machine, and a modular operation theatre (OT) for cochlear implant surgeries at Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, strengthening the state’s advanced healthcare infrastructure.

During the visit, the minister toured various hospital departments and interacted warmly with children who had undergone cochlear implant surgeries, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services for hearing-impaired patients.

₹4.5 Crore CT Scan Facility

The newly installed 128-slice CT Scan machine, funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at a cost of ₹4.5 crore, is equipped with advanced diagnostic technology. It enables doctors to quickly detect coronary artery calcification, narrowed blood vessels, blockages, and other heart-related abnormalities, allowing early diagnosis before a heart attack occurs.

New Sonography Machine

The hospital has also received a Philips high-end sonography machine worth ₹47.5 lakh, funded through the Rogi Kalyan Samiti (RKS) fund. The new equipment will significantly improve radiology services and reduce waiting times for patients.

Modern Cochlear Implant Operation Theatre

The Gujarat Government has established a dedicated modular OT for cochlear implant surgeries at a cost of ₹55 lakh. The facility has been further upgraded with an anesthesia workstation worth ₹33 lakh and an OT table costing ₹3 lakh, both funded through the RKS fund.

The new OT will enhance surgical care for children and adults with hearing impairment, providing safer and more efficient cochlear implant procedures.

Free Cochlear Implant Surgeries

Under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), the Gujarat Government provides free cochlear implant surgeries for eligible children.

  • Around 200 children undergo cochlear implant surgeries every year in Gujarat.
  • More than 3,500 children have benefited from the programme so far.
  • The state currently has nine government institutions performing cochlear implant surgeries, with all essential pre-operative investigations—including CT Scan, MRI, audiological evaluation, psychological assessment, and vaccination—provided free of cost.

Sola Civil Leads the State

Sola Civil Hospital ranks first in Gujarat for cochlear implant surgeries. The new modular OT, along with advanced anesthesia and surgical facilities, is expected to further improve treatment outcomes and expand access to quality healthcare for patients with hearing disabilities.

The addition of these advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities is expected to make specialized radiology and cochlear implant services more accessible, enabling the hospital to treat a larger number of patients with greater efficiency.
