Ahmedabad: Gujarat University will remain closed for 10 days from October 18 to 27, 2025 for the Diwali vacation. Terminal Examinations will begin from October 28. This is the longest Diwali holiday till now.
- Gujarat University was conceived in the 1920s by leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Acharya Anandshankar Dhruva, G. V. Mavalankar, Kasturbhai Lalbhai, etc.
- It was established under the Gujarat University Act in 1949 as a teaching and affiliating university. At that time, the reorganization was part of the changes in the Bombay State (before Gujarat became a separate state).
- Over time, several other universities were carved out of its jurisdiction. These include: Sardar Patel University, Saurashtra University, Bhavnagar University, South Gujarat University, Gujarat Ayurveda University, Gujarat Agricultural University and North Gujarat University.
