Ahmedabad, August 2: Torrential rainfall on August 1 caused widespread disruption across Saurashtra, North, Central, and South Gujarat, leaving several districts grappling with flooding, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted daily life.
Morbi and Surendranagar emerged as the worst-affected districts, where incessant rain inundated villages, submerged roads, and severely impacted agricultural land. In Morbi, vast stretches of farmland were transformed into rivers, raising serious concerns among farmers over crop losses and financial hardship.
Heavy rainfall also affected Patan, Bharuch, and Surat, where waterlogging and overflowing rivers disrupted normal life. In Surat district, floodwaters from the Kim River impacted several villages in Olpad and Mangrol talukas. However, authorities reported that the river’s water level has started receding, bringing much-needed relief to residents after days of flooding.
In Surendranagar’s Limbdi region, several villages remained cut off for more than 12 hours as roads were submerged and transportation came to a standstill. Emergency teams continued monitoring the situation and assisting affected communities.
Meanwhile, Navsari has been facing an unprecedented monsoon season, with the city experiencing its third flood in just 15 days. Municipal authorities have launched a massive cleanup operation as floodwaters recede, while residents work to restore normalcy.
Although rainfall intensity has eased across many parts of the state, the weather department has forecast more heavy rain in parts of Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch today. Officials have urged people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow safety advisories.
Authorities continue rescue and relief operations in affected districts and have appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. Disaster response teams remain on standby as the state braces for another spell of monsoon showers.
