India today rushed a 34-member team of doctors and technicians along with 15 tonnes of medical supplies to Nepal after it suffered a devastating earthquake in which hundreds of people have been killed.
The team left for Nepal in an Air Force plane, officials said.
“The Health Ministry has rushed 15 tonnes of medical supplies to Nepal today. The Ministry has also?sent?a 34 member medical team consisting of 10 Orthopaedic Surgeons, 4 Anaesthetists, 12 Male Nurses and eight OT Technicians to the earthquake affected areas of Nepal to provide emergency medical relief,” the Health Ministry said.
In addition, three technicians for installing and operating the water treatment plants have also been sent.
The Ministry had put health services on the “high alert” following the massive earthquake yesterday.
It has also taken complete stock of the situation and have extended all support to worst-hit states of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh as well.
Health Minister J P Nadda is personally monitoring the situation on an hourly basis and has also conducted a complete detailed review of the situation and given instructions.
“Saddened by the loss of life and property in today’s earthquake. Have put health services on high alert,” Nadda had tweeted yesterday.
A health ministry official said that the Ministry is also keeping a close watch on Bihar and UP where more than more than 50 people have died.
“The health services in affected states have been put on the highest alert. We have also conveyed informally to the states that whatever help is required, we are ready to rush medicines, doctors team, paramedics or equipments,” the official had said.
Fresh tremors were today felt in various parts of India, including the national capital Delhi, even as the death toll in yesterday’s temblor climbed to 57.
