Iraq crisis:Indian workers missing in Mosul, efforts on to bring back trapped nationals

Indian Diplomatic mission in Baghdad intensified efforts to bring back Indian nationals trapped by Sunni Militants. Some Indian workers on construction site at Iraqi city of Mousl have been missing. As per reports, as many as 40 Indian nationals from Mousl could not be contacted.Former envoy to Iraq, Suresh Reddy is being sent to Baghdad to strengthen the Indian Mission . There is a report of about 120 Indians that the mission is trying to evacuate from those parts of northern Iraq that have been overrun by militants.  Rescue teams have been in touch with most of them, they have not been able to establish contact with one group of construction workers near Mosul, said the official .

Amid worsening situation in Iraq, the Indian government called in the Iraqi envoy here to discuss ways of helping Indian nationals trapped in the affected areas of Mosul and Tikrit and also held a crisis management meeting. There are 46 Indian nurses — most of them from Kerala — stranded in Tikrit.The external affairs ministry on Tuesday evening announced the setting up of a 24-hour control room to provide information to all concerned. The Indian embassy in Baghdad has also set up a 24-hour helpline.
