J&K: Nowhatta attack: CRPF officer and two militants killed in gunfight

Today in Jammu and Kashmir, the Commanding Officer of 4th Battalion of the CRPF was killed as armed militants attacked a police station in Srinagar’s Nowhatta area in Jammu and Kashmir, police said, when PM Narendra Modi delivered his Independence Day speech in Delhi. Two militants have been killed in the encounter but their bodies have not been retrieved yet. The gunmen were unable to take control of the police station in the old city of Srinagar, but did wound five security personnel in the attack. Commanding Officer Pramod Kumar had sustained injuries in the attack and later died. Three more militants are believed to be on the run and police have launched a manhunt. Separately, the Army also said it had foiled an attempt to infiltrate two militants from Pakistan into India. The two men were killed in the Uri sector.
