Lankan govt apologises over objectionable article on Modi-Jayalalitha defense website

Objectionable article on Sri Lanka’s Defense Minstry website about Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Jayalalitha with a morphed heart shaped image of Chief Minister and Mr Modi in the heart shaped image.

The matter came up when Chief Minister wrote to PM Modi summon Lankan envoy and seeking explanation about this objectionable article. However, Lankan government says the article was without proper authorisation and now has been removed from the website.Sri Lanka has apologised to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for objectionable article of  two Indian leaders on the official website of its defence ministry.

In an “unqualified apology”, the Lankan government said the article was published “without proper authorization. The article doesn’t reflect our government’s official position.”

Chief Minister Jayalalitha said “The visual is highly objectionable as it shows the PM and CM in a derogatory manner. It attempts to cause uphevel in India’s federal politics”.This article has put question mark at Indian Prime Minister Modi’s invitation to Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for his swearing in ceremony in May 2014.

Regional parties in Tamil Nadu accuse Mr Rajapaksa of presiding over the killing of civilians in the final stages of the war against the Tamil separatist outfit LTTE. It is a political minefield in the state where assembly elections are due in 2016.

NDA ally PMK said the article was in poor taste. They tarnish image of PM Modi and CM Jayalalithaa. Governement should demand an apology from the Lankan president and Defence Secretary. India should call the Lankan High Commissioner.Even Congress also demanded for an apology.
