Ahmedabad is gearing up to welcome Metro Rail project in its first phase. Preparations are in full swing to launch the project for people of Ahmedabad city.

Metro Rail project soon to be opened for people after inauguration by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 30th September.
PM will be visiting Gujarat for 2 days during 29th and 30th September.

39.26 km Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1 project with 2 lines and 32 stations was approved by India’s central government.
Construction work on Phase 1 commenced in 2015 starting with a 6 km stretch of Line-1 between East West corridor from Apparel Park to Vastral Gam. East West corridor is 21.16 kms long with 17 stations on the track.

Thalatej, Doordarshan Kendra, Gurukul Road, Gujarat University, Commerce Char Rasta, Sardar Patel Stadium, Old High Court, Shahpur, Gheekanta, Kalupur Railway Station, Kankaria East, Apparel Park, Amraiwadi, Rabari Colony, Vastral, Nirant Cross Road and Vastral village.
Metro will reach Gandhinagar in second phase. The state capital Gandhinagar will be connected with Ahmedabad in the second phase of metro rail. It will be an extension of first phase of Ahmedabad Metro rail.
This phase has two corridors with a 22.8 km Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir route with 20 stations. While there will be a 5.4 km route from Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) to Gift City which has 2 stations. The entire route of 28.26 km will be elevated.
Metro project in Ahmedabad will be launched by August end 2022. Formal announcement about it will be made soon. Trial run on metro track has been completed. In 18.87 kms long North South corridor 15 elevated stations have been constructed. North South corridor stretches from Motera stadium to Vasna APMC.
Metro train will mainly help daily commuters including office goers, students travelling from one end to other end in the city. It will augment transportation facility beyond AMTS and BRTS in Ahmedabad city.
There was delay in project completion to Coronavirus pandemic otherwise originally the project was meant to be over by 2020.
