Morbi: The suspension bridge, which is a historical heritage of the city, is located in the Machhu river. The suspension bridge over the Machhu river near Mani mandir has been broken. Due to Sunday, many people came here for sightseeing today afternoon. In the same evening, the bridge suddenly broke and the tourists fell into the river along with the bridge. As soon as people came to know about the incident, a rescue operation was carried out by local people. More than 50 people are feared to have died so far.
Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel has reached Morbi accident site. As per Gujarat home minister 70 people have been saved ot of people sent to hospital.
About 400 people fell in the river, many feared drowned. NDRF team and Nagar Palika team has rushed to the site and started rescue operation. Morbi Ex MLA Kantilal Amrutiya jumped into river to save lives of people after Morbi bridge collapse.
Two lakh rupees ex gratia payment by government has been announced to victim family in the incident.
Morbi suspension bridge Gujarat was built by Britishers, and it had been standing for 140 years. It was repaired and kept open just 3 days ago and it collapsed today taking 100 people with it.
Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel, state home minister Harsh Sanghavi will rush the accident site.
It is learnt that PM Narendra Modi will personally visit the site of Morbi. PM Modi has expressed his grief over the incident through a twitter post from his official account.
BJP’s Get to gather program of 1st November has been cancelled due to Morbi bridge tragedy.
Maintenance of the bridge is done by Oreva company for a ticket of Rs 12 and Rs 17 from child and adult respectively.
