Netrotsav ceremony of Lord Jagannath performed in Ahmedabad ahead of Rath Yatra

144th Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath in Ahmedabad has been given conditional approval by Gujarat Government. The state government has given permission for Rath Yatra with mandatory rules of Covid guidelines for devotees. At that time, preparations are also underway in Jagannath temple.

Today on No moon day Netrotsav ceremony of Lord Jagannath, sister Subhadra and brother Balram has been performed in the temple located in Jamalpur area of Ahmedabad city.

In this ritual bandage has been tied over the eyes of lord, which will be opened in the morning of the day of Rath Yatra Monday July 12, 2021.

According to mythology, Lord Jagannath, sister Subhadra and brother Balram go to their maternal uncle’s house for 15 days from the day of Jal Yatra till Rath Yatra. On no moon day, they return to temple in morning. A warm welcome is given to lord Jagannath in his maternal uncle’s house where he has been several with lot of meals, desserts, mangoes and Jamun. Due to which, it is believed that their eyes were swollen. So on no moon day they are blindfolded after entering the temple. This whole ritual is called Netrotsav ritual.
