NEW DELHI STUDENT PROTESTS ESCALATE AS POLICE USE BATONS AND TEAR GAS OVER EXAM IRREGULARITIES

NEW DELHI, JULY 20, 2026: Tensions escalated in the national capital on Monday as thousands of students and young protesters took to the streets demanding major reforms in India’s examination system.

The protesters were seeking accountability over alleged question-paper leaks and other irregularities that have affected more than two million students. They also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

As demonstrators attempted to march towards Parliament, Delhi Police used batons and tear-gas shells to disperse the crowd. Protesters were seen running for cover as clashes broke out in parts of central Delhi.

The agitation has emerged as a major youth-led movement, with demonstrators calling for greater transparency in competitive examinations, stronger safeguards against paper leaks and accountability for officials responsible for examination failures.

The protests have drawn nationwide attention, with the government facing growing pressure to address concerns surrounding examination security and the future of millions of students. The situation remains closely watched as discussions continue over the protesters’ demands and possible education reforms.
