Patna: Veteran Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for a record 10th time, marking yet another milestone in his long political journey. The oath-taking ceremony, held at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, witnessed the presence of top national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP national president J.P. Nadda, along with several NDA chief ministers.

Nitish Kumar, who first became Bihar CM in 2005, has now completed 19 years across his multiple terms in office, placing him among the top ten longest-serving Chief Ministers in India.
A total of 19 ministers from the National Democratic Alliance also took oath alongside the Chief Minister.
BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers, further strengthening the BJP–JD(U) alliance within the new government. The oaths were administered by Governor Arif Mohammad Khan.
The new government formation comes after a sweeping victory for the NDA in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, where the alliance secured 202 out of 243 seats.
BJP emerged with 89 seats, JD(U) won 85, while smaller allies completed the coalition’s overwhelming majority.
The decisive mandate paved the way for Nitish Kumar’s re-election as the leader of both the JD(U) legislature party and the NDA legislature party, leading to his formal claim to form the new government.
At 74, Nitish Kumar continues to be a pivotal figure in Bihar politics. Known widely as “Sushashan Babu” for his governance record—and sometimes as “Paltu Ram” for his frequent alliance shifts—his return as Chief Minister underscores his enduring relevance and political acumen.
With a renewed and powerful mandate, the NDA government is expected to focus on governance, infrastructure, employment, and law and order, as Bihar enters a new phase under Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
