Price of tomato has risen again, due to increased price, people refrain from eating tomato.
Tomato is a vegetable that is used daily in preparation of sabji by common man but now its price is skyrocketing. One kilo of tomato costs more than one litre of petrol, budget of the housewives has been lost. The price of tomato had reached hundred rupees and now it has also increased.

The price of tomato in major cities of India has reached Rs 155 per kg. The reason for the ever-increasing price of tomato is insufficient supply against its growing demand.
In many metros of the country, price of tomato ranges from Rs 58 to Rs 148 per kg. However, the most expensive tomato is being sold at Rs 148 per kg in Calcutta. As of today, the lowest price of tomato is in Mumbai which is Rs 58 per kg. Apart from this, the price of tomato in cities like Delhi and Chennai is Rs 110 to 117 per kg. The price of tomato is also increasing continuously in Gujarat.
According to Ministry of Consumer Affairs data, all-India retail value of tomato was 83.29 per kg. The model value of which was Rs 100 per kg. According to current statistics, the most expensive tomato is in Siliguri, West Bengal,where tomatoes are being sold at the price of Rs 155 per kg. Apart from this, depending on the quality of the tomato, its price has been seen at Rs 120 to 140 in many cities.
Importantly, supply of tomato has been stopped in most of states of the country for last two weeks. Due to the rains, process of tomato harvesting and its delivery across the country has been hampered. Due to this, tomato prices are increasing in most cities.
In this situation, government says that the rising price of tomato is a temporary problem. Tomato prices will remain high for some time now. In the next 15 days the price of tomato will decrease and in a month the situation will be back to normal.
