PepsiCo withdraws case worth crores of rupees against Indian potato farmers

Today Pepsico withdraws lawsuit against four Indian potato farmers accused of infringing its patent

PepsiCo, US food ginat is battling four farmers of Sabarkantha in North East Gujarat for allegedly growing the FL 2027 variety of potatoes for which it has claimed Plant Variety Protection rights. The patented potates were used in production of potato chips. Now battle has gone from the courts to social media. There are more supporters of farmers. After being inundated by media queries from across the globe, founder of Vadodara based NGO, has just formed a WhatsApp group to proactively share news updates that are of interest to all such people at one go.

Reacting on the issue, Gujarat Deputy chief minister Nitin Patel said the state government will become a party to help farmers.

PepsiCo had filed claim worth 1 crore against 9 farmers for producing patented potates and violating pattern norms.
