Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on September 8, with a major programme scheduled in Vadodara. According to an official PMO release, he will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation and lay foundation stones for development projects with a combined value of more than ₹35,000 crore. He will also address a public gathering in Vadodara.
Major Freight Corridor Projects
During the visit, PM Modi will dedicate three key sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to the nation. Covering approximately 326 route kilometres, the sections have been developed at a cost exceeding ₹20,700 crore.
The projects include the Sanand (North)–Makarpura, New Umbergaon–New Saphale and New Saphale–JNPT stretches.
The completion of these sections will provide direct freight connectivity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port, enabling quicker movement of export-import cargo. It is also expected to improve links between industrial hubs and ports, lower logistics expenses and help reduce pressure on Mumbai’s railway network.
With these stretches becoming operational, the Dedicated Freight Corridor network will be fully operational along its planned length, further strengthening India’s freight and multimodal logistics infrastructure.
PM Modi will also flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon and New JNPT in Mumbai.
New Rail Connectivity
A new passenger train connecting Vadodara with Tanda Road will also be flagged off. The service is expected to benefit residents of Vadodara, Chhota Udepur and Alirajpur.
The Prime Minister will dedicate the Jobat–Tanda Road new railway line, developed under the Chhota Udepur–Dhar rail project. The line will provide rail connectivity to remote and tribal regions of Alirajpur and link them with the wider national railway network.
In addition, foundation stones will be laid for three railway projects covering around 329 kilometres, with an estimated investment of more than ₹9,700 crore. These include the Vadodara–Ratlam third and fourth railway lines, Miyagam Karjan–Choranda–Malsar gauge conversion and Vishwamitri–Dabhoi doubling.
The projects are aimed at increasing passenger and freight capacity, reducing congestion and improving connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Highway Infrastructure Push
PM Modi will also lay the foundation stones for three National Highway projects costing around ₹1,780 crore.
The works include six-laning of the Kamrej–Chalthan stretch of NH-48, additional structures and major bridges on the Vadodara–Surat section of NH-48, and grade-separated structures at Abhava, Mindhola and Khajod junctions on NH-53.
Six-lane flyovers at Kandari Chokdi and Luvara Patia will also be inaugurated to improve road safety and address identified accident-prone locations on the Vadodara–Surat corridor.
Gujarat Government Projects
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and launch several projects of the Gujarat Government valued at approximately ₹2,600 crore.
Among the major projects are the foundation stone for Phase II of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 MW floating solar project at Kadana Dam, and a new office building for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
Other projects to be inaugurated include housing developments under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a water-supply scheme serving 11 villages in eastern Vadodara.
The September 8 visit is expected to mark a significant push for rail, road, freight, renewable energy, housing and water infrastructure in Gujarat.
