NEW DELHI, JULY 21, 2026: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was taken into police custody during a protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence, as the political confrontation over alleged examination irregularities intensified.
Rahul Gandhi, along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other Congress leaders, joined the protest demanding accountability over the alleged NEET question-paper leak and the police action against student demonstrators.
In a strong message to the government, Gandhi said the fight for justice for students would not be stopped or weakened, regardless of the pressure being applied. He also criticised the use of force against protesters and demanded action against those responsible for examination irregularities.
The latest development came a day after clashes during a student-led march in Delhi, where police used tear gas and batons to disperse demonstrators. The protesters have been demanding greater transparency in the examination system and accountability over alleged paper leaks.
The detention of senior Congress leaders has further escalated the political dispute, with the opposition intensifying its campaign over student grievances and the government facing growing pressure to respond to the allegations.
