On July 25, 2025, at around 8:00 a.m., part of the roof and wall of the Government Upper Primary School in Piplodi (Piplod/Piplodi) village, Manoharthana block, Jhalawar district, collapsed just before morning assembly/prayer.The school building was reportedly 78 years old and in poor condition, and had not been flagged for repairs despite prior complaints.

Two students had alerted teachers to debris falling from the ceiling just moments before. Their concerns were allegedly dismissed, with them instructed to stay in class.Seven students (aged ~~8–11, mostly in grades 7 and 8) lost their lives. Some may have died later in hospital after initial rescue. 21 to 29 other children sustained injuries, with reports varying on the number. Several were critically injured and rushed to hospitals.Rescue operations began immediately with villagers, teachers, local authorities, and medical staff working together to pull children from the rubble and transport the injured. Five school staff members (including the principal and four teachers) were suspended for alleged negligence. Officials emphasized that inspections of unsafe infrastructure also failed to flag this school. The state Education Minister, Madan Dilawar, expressed moral responsibility, announced compensation (around ₹10 lakh per family), and pledged government jobs for a family member of each deceased child. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma ordered immediate structural audits of all government buildings, the formation of a technical expert committee (to report within five days), and evacuation of unsafe structures. Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje demanded a statewide safety audit of school infrastructure, criticizing delays and oversight failures by the education department.
