Ram Rahim verdict: Ram Rahim gets 20 years in jail for 2 rape cases
Today afternoon Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Indian guru sentenced to 20 years in prison for the rape of two women followers in 2002 amid shoot at sight orders in Rohtak. Judge arrived by helicopter at 2:20 pm and later rape convict Ram Rahim Singh was called for announcement of quantum of punishment.
Medical examination of Baba was done by Civil Surgeon. His health was found to be normal.Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was booked under provisions of IPC section 376 , 506 and 511.
A special CBI court pronounced quantum of punishment by Judge Jagdeep Singh. CBI demanded for highest punishment.
Army, para military forces and media lined up outside CBI court in Rohtak of Haryana. Thousands of soldiers are guarding the prison and the army is on stand-by. No civilians are being allowed within 10 km of the prison.
The two women who accused Ram Rahim of raping them 15 years ago, have told that they will appeal for more punishment for him.
Rohtak’s residents were warned today to remain indoors. Large gatherings were banned in the city. Mobile internet services were discontinued. All schools and colleges in Haryana were closed.
As sentencing in Ram Rahim case is done, Chandigadh Chief Minister has called emergency meeting with Chief Secretary and DGP to check on law and order situation in the state.
