Sanjay Dutt’s early release challenged in Bombay High Court

The Maharashtra prisons department would submit a report to the Bombay High Court stating that the remission granted to bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was entirely based on the rules and regulations laid down by the government concerning convicts facing rigorous imprisonment.

In response to PIL Public Interest litogation that was filed by activist Pradeep Bhalekar in Bombay High Court challenging the early release and remission granted to Sanjay Dutt convicted in the 1993 serial blasts case would be answered in the stated format quoting state government laid down rules.

Bombay High Commission bench questioned various aspects regarding the early release and remission to actor Sanjay Dutt following the petition and asked the prison department of Maharashtra to file their reply through their public prosecutor within three weeks.

The report will be filed with the Bombay HC will be giving the explanation for the early remission of Dutt by the prisons department. The actor was released from jail 8 months earlier than the actual jail term he was sentenced to.
