Shravan month’s first Monday; Shiva temples full of devotees

Today being first Monday of pious Shravan month as per Gujarati calender, devotees rush at Lord Shiva temple around. They offer Bili Patra and milk on the idol of Shiva, Shivalinga. Some people observe fast on all Monday of Shravan month. Shravan month is said to be very pious month among Gujaratis and Hindus.

At Somnath temple in Gir-Somnath district, the first among the 12 jyotirlingas of lord Shiva, large number of devotees gather for Darshan and offer prayers.

In Devbhoomi Dwarka district, devotees also gathered in large numbers for abhishek and mahaarti at Nageshwara temple, another jyotirlinga, (one of the two in Gujarat) situated around 25 km from Dwarka town.

In Ahmedabad city, special puja, abhishek and aaratis were are made in Shiva temples at  Nilkanth Mahadev temple, Someshwar temple and Chakudia Mahadev temple.

In Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Bharuch, Jamnagar, Mahesana, Patan, Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Amreli, Shiva temples were especially decorated for the occasion with great devotion.

Special prayers with 601 lamps were offered at Amarnath Dham in Gandhinagar by devotees including children, women and men. Amarnath Dham is a miniature model of Amarnath Dham in north India.
