Gandhinagar/Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Health Department has clarified that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola virus infection in India or Gujarat, amid social media discussions regarding a few individuals placed under medical observation after arriving from African nations.
According to officials, the individuals had recently travelled from regions linked to Africa, including Congo and Uganda, where Ebola-related concerns have been reported internationally. The World Health Organization (WHO) has previously monitored Ebola outbreaks in certain African countries, including Uganda.
Health authorities said that a businessman identified as Amiri Lokola travelled from Mumbai to Vadodara. After developing fever symptoms in Vadodara, medical teams were alerted and precautionary action was initiated immediately.
The individual was shifted to Ahmedabad and admitted to a separate isolation ward at SVP Hospital as part of preventive protocol. Two other individuals who had accompanied him, along with a doctor who had been in contact with them, were also admitted for observation and monitoring.
Officials stressed that it has not been confirmed that the patient is infected with Ebola virus. Blood samples have been sent to a laboratory in Pune for detailed testing, and the final report is awaited.
As a precautionary measure, the individuals have been placed under quarantine and observation for 11 days. Senior health officials have also conducted meetings to review the situation and ensure preparedness.
The Health Department reiterated that these actions are purely preventive and urged the public not to panic or spread misinformation on social media.
State Health Minister appealed to citizens to avoid being misled by rumors online and emphasized that the government is closely monitoring the situation with all necessary safety measures in place.
Authorities confirmed that, so far, no Ebola case has been detected in Gujarat or anywhere in India.
