Suspension of Congress MPs Could Be Revoked Tomorrow: Sources

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan could revoke the suspension of 25 Congress MPs tomorrow,  as per sources.

Biju Janata Dal, Samjawadi Party and the Trinamool Congress have reportedly talking to Speaker to persuade her to reconsider her decision and revoke Monday’s order.

Ms Mahajan had suspended 25 Congress MPs for 5 days for “persistently, wilfully obstructing” the House. The Congress protested against her order today by boycotting the Lok Sabha and staging a dharna or sit-in near a Gandhi statue in the Parliament premises.

AICC president Sonia Gandhi led her party’s MPs from both the houses in the protest and described the suspension as “a murder of democracy.”

AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi continued the protests that provoked Ms Mahajan to suspend the Congress lawmakers, the first time that such action was taken against so many MPs together.

Despite repeated warnings, Congress lawmakers had been for days trooping into the House with placards that they carried to the Well or centre of the house while demanding the resignation of three top BJP leaders.

“I tried not to be stringent for eight days. I tried my best to maintain the decorum of the house…but it is unacceptable that members cover the Speaker with placards,” Ms Mahajan had said yesterday.
