Today India gets its first medal and open its account in Tokyo Olympics 2020, after Mirabai Chanu won Silver medal in 49 kilograms of Weightlifting. She became the first Indian weightlifter to win the silver medal when she earned the medal in the women’s 49 kg event on Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87 kg in snatch and 115 kg in clean and jerk) during her four successful attempts across the competition.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi greeted all sports participating in Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Also, This is India’s first at the Tokyo Games. Chanu is the second weightlifter after Karnam Malleswari to win an Olympics’ medal for India.
