During the Gujarat Assembly session, slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” and “Dada Dada” echoed in the House before the Chief Minister began his response on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
The Chief Minister urged everyone to move forward with unity, setting aside criticism, and stated that Gujarat has taken a historic step by becoming the second state in India to introduce the UCC bill.
Referring to Article 44 of the Constitution, he emphasized that the bill is based on the spirit of equal laws for all citizens, ensuring that no religious community faces injustice.
He highlighted that the bill is especially significant for women, as it guarantees daughters equal rights in their father’s property and strengthens their legal protection. He also asserted that those who deceive or exploit women will have no place in Gujarat.
The Chief Minister clarified that the bill does not promote live-in relationships but aims to bring uniformity in marriage registration and divorce procedures.
Dismissing misinformation regarding tribal communities, he assured that their rights will remain fully protected and that the bill will not harm them in any way.
He appealed to all members of the Assembly to support the bill unanimously.
