The Vadodara Crime Branch has arrested Girish Solanki, who runs a publication under the name Gujarat Headline News, along with his associate Jagdish Mehta, in connection with multiple extortion and intimidation complaints. Solanki is very much fond of wearing Golden chain and rings.
According to police sources, at least five FIRs have been registered so far against Solanki. He is accused of blackmailing businessmen and local traders by threatening to publish negative news or initiate legal action unless they paid him money. Preliminary investigation suggests that both Solanki and Mehta were allegedly operating a network to extort money under the guise of journalism.
Complainants claim Solanki would approach business owners posing as a journalist.He allegedly threatened to defame them through news articles and social media videos. Victims were reportedly forced to pay money to “settle issues”.In some cases, he allegedly demanded payments repeatedly, misusing the title of press.
The Vadodara Crime Branch conducted a targeted operation and arrested both Girish Solanki and Jagdish Mehta.
Officials have seized mobile phones, documents, and digital records, which are now being examined.
“We have sufficient evidence indicating extortion. More victims may come forward. Further investigation is underway.”
Sources say that additional FIRs could be filed as more individuals are expected to submit complaints.
