Every year World No Tobacco Day is observed around the world on 31st May. It is to promote a 24-hour period of abstinence from all forms of tobacco consumption globally.
The message is conveyed to youngsters and tobacco addicts to prevent deadly disease like cancer etc.
As per statistics, girls consume 20 % more tobacco than boys.
Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day. On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.
