Cyclone Ockhi: Live updates from Gujarat

Today owing to Ockhi cyclone likely to hit at Gujarat Coast. State administration has sounded high alert on coast areas of Gujarat.

The cyclone has passed Maharashtra and heading towards Surat.

NDRF teams were deployed in Olpad and Surat. Teams of Fire Fighters have been kept on stand to position.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on situation after Ockhi Cyclone.






In Surat, all schools to remain closed to prevent from effect of the cyclone. Gusting winds is expected to blow at 70 to 80 kms per hour.




Gas supply at 5 places in Hazira was discontinued based on instructions from district Collector.

Surat city will be closed from 4 pm onwards and people are advised not to move out of their houses after 8 pm on instruction from Surat district collector.

Due to unseasonal rain and weather change illness and swine flu cases may rise.

Gujarat adminstration held emergency meeting with disaster management teams and checked the readiness to meet any kind of eventuality and gave instructions to concerned district collectors.

Gujarat Coast on high alert due to Ockhi Cyclone

The state weather agency IMD Indian Meteorological Department has issued warning regarding Ockhi cyclone in south Gujarat. The cyclone started from Sril Lanka and moved forward towards Gujarat.

The cyclone was formed due to deep depression in Arabian Sea.

Coastal areas including Porbandar, Gir Somnath have been  put on high alert.

District collectors have been given with instructions for stand to.

Weather will remain cloudy and wind speed will be between 50 to 70 kms.

Fishermen are advised not to venture in the sea.

State administration is equipped to meet the situation. NDRF teams at Navsari and Surat have been kept on stand to.

In the sea signal number 2 has been activated.
